Recreating the exciting sound of AM-10, WCFL in Chicago was a dream of J.R. Russ who grew up listening the the great Chicago Top-40 station and competitor WLS in the 60's and 70's.
Once he got the OK from Jingle company TM Studios and Chickenman creator Dick Orkin to use their content, building the station identified as "The Voice of Labor" and owned by a Union became a labor of love.
The result is "an historic audio document" about as close as you can get to the 24/7 sound of the 50,000watt station at 1,000khz on AM radios known as “BIG 10”.
Linda Ronstadt's “We need a whole lot more of Jesus” at the “double punch”Top-of-the-hour ID jingle is a tribute to DJ Larry Lujack. He would play the clip sarcastically saying “Rock and roll will rot your mind, curve your spine and lose the war for the allies” and then bang into rockin' hits by The Beatles, Rolling Stones or Foreigner.
Not to be confused with other WCFL tribute sites, sharing the sound chocked full of the great personalities, exciting promotions and timeless music is the goal of WCFLchicago.com. Enjoy!
